Day 1 and 2; The adventure begins…

Today we start our long journey to Windhoek Namibia, the first stop on our African Adventure. I was heartened to be home for some of the spring showings before we left.

Trilliums, just beginning to blossom ! The provincial flower of Ontario, our home province

Dan and I headed out from our home in the early afternoon enroute to Montreal International Airport. From there we would travel to Frankfurt overnight. After waiting 12-14 hours in Frankfurt Airport, we would then board our flight to Windhoek Namibia… another overnight flight! Total travel time will be about 36 hours!

Still fresh…but bracing ourselves for 2 back to back overnight flights!

Our plan is to tour Namibia for 12 days using a 4×4 Toyota SUV. This is the least populated country in the world as it is mostly made up of the Namib and Kalahari deserts. Having said that, there is plenty to see and do in this beautiful land. From visiting the tallest Sand dunes in the world, to touring the Skeleton Coast and doing safaris in Etosha National Park, we won’t be lacking for things to do!

We will then move on to Cape Town and explore the lush beauty of this city at the southern tip of Africa. From hiking the fabulous coastal terrain to visiting penguins and taking in some wine tasting, we will experience a mix of rural and urban culture in this exotic land,

Our final stop on our trip will be to Tanzania where we will embark on a 7 day safari taking in the southern and northern parts of the Serengeti as well as the Ngorongoro Crater and Conservation area. While we may be a bit early for the annual migration of the Wildebeests, we are hoping to see the start of it.

Given the nature of our trip, I will try to post as often as I can, but will depend greatly on the wifi capabilities available to me.

  2. For some reason I have not been receiving your blog so Gwen sent it to me and I have re-signed up. Have a great trip. We have left Yorkshire and are now in Northumberland. Oh and we watched a program last night of driving across the salt flats and the desert to get to Namibia.
