Day 9, Etosha Park, from the east to the west

We took our time getting up and away today (well not really, but most of the guests at this larger hotel were off on an early morning safari.

Since we were self driving and exploring the park today on our own we researched which water holes to visit and set off at around 9 to start exploring. Typically one visits the park just after sunrise when the park opens or the few hours before sunset. These times are when the animals are most active. Dan and I had a late start, but planned on taking our time going through the park and saw a surprising number of animals as a result. And yes, we managed to make it out of the park gates with 10 minutes to spare before they closed!

Here are some of our day’s highlights!

Dan enjoying his morning coffee on our deck
Big Bird!
Our sighting of giraffes as we left a water holes!
And sometimes the animals come to you! Here we see some Gnu crossing the main road through the park!
This Oryx though we didn’t see it!
Again, just walking down the main road in the middle of the day! Here we see Plain Zebras
Our last waterhole visited was the best! We got there when no one else was there! And we saw this herd of zebra drinking.
Then along came some very shy female Antelope
Time to get nervous because a couple of these beauties arrived next!
And the shy giraffe came over for a second drink after the big guys left!
Here’s a picture of the salt pan…. Flat former lake bottom
The low sun it telling us to hurry up and get out of the park!

Well. As I said, we made it out in time and checked into our hotel at the Mushara Bush Camp. Tent like structures, that have a full ensuite and even a hairdryer and turn down service! They are going to spoil us!

Our home for the next 2 nights!

Hope you have a great day! Looking forward to giving you the good on our first early morning safari tomorrow am. Breakfast at 7, ouch! Until tomorrow!

Picture perfect and what lovely looking accommodations. Would love some pics of the food they prepare for you which I would think 🤔 is somewhat different than our fare. Have fun on the safari.
