Day 15, Keswick to Grassington

First and foremost, a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to Alex!!! Our oldest son turns 30 today!!! …. And he’s been celebrating all weekend ( well there might have been a wedding anniversary in there as well!!!)

Back to the blog…. After a lovely breakfast, we packed up and got ready to move on from the Lake District to the Dales.  Before we went, my dear friend Laura reminded me to see the standing stones at Castlerigg… When I looked it up, our B and B was only a couple of Kms from this magical place!

So magical in fact, Dan found he could get cell phone reception, even with his plan being on a temporary suspension!

While we had been given a forecast of rain, we actually had some pleasant breaks!  Even the baby lambs were celebrating…

  … And so were we!

Now it was time to hit the road! We planned a lovely drive through the middle of the Lake District, driving by Wordsworth’s cottage and on the Ambleside.  We made a short stop here and took in some of the sites… The stacked stone architecture was amazing!

Ambleside was lovely, but it was time to move on!  Through the rest of the Lake District and on towards the Yorkshire Dales! An easy drive, and after a hour or so we arrived at our destination …
… A lovely 17th century home that has been lovingly restored over the years.

After settling in (we were going to be here for 4 nights!!!!  The longest we’ve stayed in one place in 8 weeks!!!) we got ready to explore the quaint village.   It is a lovely spot with a few small shops ( yes Gwen, the shoe shop is still selling Mephisto shoes!!) and is currently hosting a festival for the next couple of weeks… Should prove to have some fun entertainment should we wish to venture out after supper!!!

After a great ” pub” dinner, we headed back to our B and B ( over the tiny River in Threston… About 500 m from Grassington!)

Walks start tomorrow!  Until then…
